Description: The piece was created for an art competition hosted by Slew, one of my favorite artists on Youtube. The Challenge? Paint anything you wanted inside the silhouette of his “head” character. He gave us the blank shape and told us to let our imagination go wild. So I did. While my 4-year-old nephew swears they’re jelly beans, I painted Agnit’s brain in layered, multicolored shapes to represent raw creativity. I’d just finished a digital banner in a similar style and figured…why not try it in paint too? Have I ever blended paint before? No. Was I going to try anyway? Absolutely. And somehow it turned out better than I imagined. The eyes were meant to capture the feeling of being watched. When you’re good at what you do, sometimes it feels like everyone’s watching, and not always in a good way. So I gave Agnit a bandana, something to hide behind. The black tears falling and floating? That’s for creativity that feels heavy. Controlled. Pressurized. I worked on this piece everyday for a week and submitted it just before the deadline. I didn’t win the contest, but I did walk away with something better: I remembered how good it feels to paint.
